Art Gallery assignment: All students enrolled in art history courses will be required to spend at least 4.38 hours Custom Essay
Art Gallery assignment: All students enrolled in art history courses will be required to spend at least 4.38 hours (4 hours 20 min) outside of class time observing art in the SRJC Art Gallery. Since this is an online class, students will be asked to visit the Gallery virtually through the Gallery’s website. If you can manage to visit the Gallery in person, then that would be great, too! In fact, I highly encourage you to stop by in person if at all possible.
Please note that in an online class you will demonstrate that you completed the required gallery hours through your assignment. We don’t have a way (yet) for you to log in your hours in the website, so it’s completely on the honor system.
Exploring the Gallery (even in virtual terms) will be an exciting opportunity for you to apply the analytical skills and vocabulary terms that you are learning in class. I have put together a series of questions for you to complete in order to demonstrate that you have spent the specified time exploring the Gallery website.
Submit your Gallery responses to TURNITIN. Submit the answers to all 4 responses in one single entry.
Gallery Response 1:
Pick any single work featured on the SRJC Gallery website and answer the following questions. Try to answer the questions as comprehensively as possible, while keeping in mind that not all questions may be relevant to the work you have selected. Submit your answers to TURNITIN. (25 possible points)
***Who? (Who does this work depict? Who is the artist? Who is the patron?)
***What? (What type of an object is this? What is the medium? What is being depicted here? What is the subject?)
***When? (When was this work made? Which period does this work belong to?)
***Where? (What is the provenance? Which part of the world does this work belong?)
***Why? (Why do you think this work is significant? List key vocabulary terms that you can apply to this work.)
Gallery Response 2:
Pick your most favorite work of art featured on the SRJC Art Gallery website. Which piece did you select? Be as specific as possible (title of the piece, name of the artist, name of the show, etc) What exactly is appealing about this work? Does it evoke any positive memories? If so, then what? In general, how does this work make you feel? (25 possible points)
Gallery Response 3:
Pick your least favorite work of art featured on the SRJC Art Gallery website. Which piece did you select? Be as specific as possible (title of the piece, name of the artist, name of the show, etc) What exactly do you dislike about this work? Does it evoke any negative memories? If so, then what? In general, how does this work make you feel? (25 possible points)
Gallery Response 4:
Pick a past or current exhibit and write a critical review of the show. Pretend you’re a well-known art critic, and that your opinion will make or break this artist. The art world turn to you to see your response to this show. What do you tell them? What are the strengths of the exhibit (highlight key pieces)? What are the weaknesses of the show or what would you have liked to see featured along with the current selections? In general, would you rate this exhibit highly or give it negative reviews? (25 possible points)
