 Most college students have never visited a factory and find the study of cost accounting for manufacturers to be quite abstract. To help students gain a better understanding of what factories are like and to they can better visualize how cost accounting might work in such an environment, each student is required to view at least three episodes of How It’s Made. Episodes are available on cable television and on YouTube for $1.99 each. As an alternative to one of the episodes of How It’s Made, students may view “Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Production”, available free on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmQScps9D4Q Students are required to prepare a report that describes the factory and manufacturing process, and how they think cost would apply to each manufacturing environment.
