Final Paper

Select out three of the texts we have studied this term. The options are O Bon, Unincorporated Territory [Hacha], China Men, Norwegian Wood.

Your assignment is to write a comprehensive paragraph about a topic of your choosing on each of the three texts. So, there will be a total of three paragraphs.

I encourage you to use the DB summations of the texts that I have posted under Course Documents, as well as lecture notes, to help refresh your memories with reference to the three texts you choose, and to help you to brainstorm for the topic you are most interested in writing about.

–Devote one comprehensive paragraph to each text.

–Establish for each paragraph a topic sentence that specifies the text you will examine in this paragraph. Work to establish a topic sentence that provokes you to analyze the text, rather than to merely summarize [see the document about thesis, topic sentence outline in the Paper folder under Assignments to better understand this concept].

–Work to go into the specifics of the text, through careful reasoning and interpretation, and through effectively incorporating a brief quote. Always effective writing develops specific ideas rather than skimming over the surface and generalizing. So, be careful to establish topic sentences that zero in on an idea that you can effectively cover in the span of one paragraph. 

–Include a concluding sentence that provides closure.
