The Future of Religion in American Politics

Dear Writer please use The Religion and politics in the US seventh edition by Kenneth D Wald& Allison Calhoun-Brown 2014

M7 Discussion: Final Reflections
In this course, we have considered the essential and proper relationship between religion and political activity in the United States. We have explored the historical foundations, explanatory theories, and contemporary issues. Drawing on what you have learned in this course, address the following questions:

Does the entry of religious groups into the political arena threaten the stability of the American political system?
Do the instances of individual intolerance and the sporadic cases of violence that we see in modern society point to a larger and more pervasive climate of hostility fueled by religion?
How has this course informed your opinions of the proper relationship between religion and politics?
Please post an initial response to the question(s) above, then reply to at least two different peers over the course of the module. Remember, in order for class discussions to be meaningful, you must participate regularly and consistently.

M7 Overview
Pope in red robe greets President Obama. They clasp both hands

President Barack Obama and Pope Benedict XVI, are photographed as they meet at the Vatican, July 10, 2009. President Obama sat down with the pontiff at the Vatican on Friday for a meeting in which frank but constructive talks were expected between two men who agree on helping the poor but disagree on abortion and stem cell research. This module is devoted to final reflection and synthesis. Here we consider how significantly religion affects American politics and vice versa, and we will consider the future of religion in the United States and the impact on political life, including the democratic and legislative process. A main culminating question is the actual impact of religion on the democratic process, and how democracies should treat religious movements, including fundamentalist movements.

Module Objectives
By the end of this module you should be able to:

Identify factors that explicate the effects of religious activism on political life in the United States.
Articulate the cases for and the cases against religion’s role in American politics.
Explain how the Christian Right is a rational social movement, and define its strategies for future expansion.
Argue the proper relationship between religious interests and American democracy.
